Naughty Naughty Naughty - Microsofts Attempts to Conquer the FOSS World
Thanks to TuxMachine [here], I came accross some very interesting links showing Microsoft’s attempts to interfere with the FOSS and Linux movement and possibly conquer it by:
1. Microsoft’s CodePlex [here] is an attempt to become FSF’s Savannah or SourceForge.net but if you go through their terms and conditions, you will be amazed how they treat Intellectual Property Rights. I hope the developers joing this site have a good eyesight vision, hey how many fingers are these?
2. Sharing Code the Microsoft Way with Shared Source: The Microsoft Shared Source Initiative [here] tells a philosophy of its own on sharing source code but not making it available in the Public Domain or openly with its software. I saw their presentation during a FOSS conference in Nairobi, Kenya last year and trust me, I have never had such a great laugh since! I actually felt like saying “Well DUH!”
3. The Microsoft Research Facility [here] to study FOSS, a community fueled by Microsoft’s own employees posing to be contributors from or related to the FOSS community, sheesh! Anyways, they seem to be following the philosophy that in order to infiltrate the FOSS community, divide and conquer them then finally eliminate them so see how they do it and do what they do, maybe we might actually develop FOSS under Microsoft, another “DUH”.
4. Novell and Microsoft [here], all I can say is, some companies really know how to destroy their long and well earnt reputation and clients.
