Jeremy Allison SAMBA Project Lead resigns from Novell on its deal with Microsoft

The recent news about Jeremy Allison has rocked both the Linux/FOSS & Proprietary Source world. Jeremy is the co-founder and developer of the SAMBA Project, a software that bridges Windows desktop networks to Linux Servers, has quit Novell in protest over their deal with Microsoft. Go Jeremy, we love you Jeremy! This protest has revived the spirits of all those feeling that maybe a certain portion of the FOSS world was giving in to the Microvell (short for Microsoft + Novell partnership) deal.
According to Linux Insider [here] Jeremy announced last week that
he would be leaving Suse Linux vendor Novell over the company’s patent pact with Microsoft. Jeremy had shown his concerns earlier to the Novell management that the November interoperability and patent agreement between Novell and Microsoft had upset a number of FOSS community members who argue that the deal — legitimate under the open source General Public License (GPL) — goes against the license’s spirit of equal sharing, since only Suse Linux users are protected from Microsoft patent claims.
I have been really sure about one thing though, that this deal is helping strengthen the Spirit of FOSS worldwide. This deal also proved that Microsoft has really been getting afraid of the FOSS Revolution and is attempting to take steps to prevent the movement from growing but what it doesn’t know is that doing this sort of activity proves that the FOSS Movement is already waaaay out of Microsoft’s reach!
